85°C Bakery

85°C Bakery

overview

For the first portfolio project in the Google UX/UI design course, I decided to design a mobile menu and ordering app for 85°C Bakery, which is a Taiwanese retail chain that specializes in selling Asian-inspired breads, desserts, and drinks. I designed an app that allows users to look at the menu, place an order, and pay easily. This is my first personal UX/UI design project.

User Research, Lo-Fi Wireframing, Prototyping, UX/UI Design

00. Goal

With the rise in population of mobile ordering apps, it has now become ubiquitous to have an easy and efficient way to grab food. Although many restaurants have adopted this method of ordering, many bakeries such as 85°C Bakery have not. Whether it be for loyal customers or newcomers, 85°C Bakery needed a simple and streamlined way to encourage patrons to access and order their offerings.

How can 85°C Bakery customers easily and efficiently view the menu, place orders, and pay at their favorite bakery?

01. Research

Through 6 user interviews, I was able to gather information on the major pain points for customers who order from bakeries. I synthesized these insights into personas and a journey map to better visualize my findings.

02. Ideation

After identifying a user flow, I drafted paper and digital wireframes to create a foundation for the app. I also prototyped the low-fidelity wireframes, which you can view here.

03. Mockups

After creating the wireframes, I conducted a usability study to determine which areas of my design could use improvement.

  • Users wanted a clearer landing homepage to view previous orders and rewards

  • The order flow needed a location selector

  • The checkout flow should be more streamlined, especially for members

Taking these insights into account, I mocked up the final high-fidelity versions of the 85°C Bakery app. You can interact with the prototype here. Final designs have been redone as of 2025.
